Hike to the Super Quarry

Super Quarry Hike — Duration 2½ to 3 hours. Length 2.5 miles.

This hike is moderate/challenging difficulty; for someone in good hiking condition. Trails are generally in good condition but may have washed out areas in the Las Vegas wash. We will maneuver through, along with some small hills.

The San Bernardino County Museum paleontologists started excavating this site in 2011 that was discovered in 2003. This site became the largest collection of fossils ever discovered from Tule Springs and was nicknamed the “Super Quarry.” More than 500 fossil bones were collected in over a year of excavation, yielding a family of three mammoths and the longest tusk (11 feet) found to date on the Monument.

You will see the quarry site, and additional fossil bone being exposed at the site. On the way out to the quarry site you will experience the geology of a natural cavern and other amazing formations which your guides will explain in detail.
