Join Protectors of Tule Springs for the Super Quarry Hike at 8am on September 28, 2024. The hike is 2.5 miles and takes approximately 2½ to 3 hours.

This hike is of moderate difficulty over rough desert terrain with some small hills. In 2011 the San Bernardino County Museum paleontologists started excavating this site that was initially discovered in 2003. This site became the largest collection of fossils ever discovered from Tule Springs and was nicknamed the “Super Quarry”. More than 500 fossil bones were collected in over a year of excavation, yielding a family of 3 mammoths and the longest tusk (11 feet) found to date on the Monument.

Although the fossils have been removed, participants will see the quarry site along with some additional fossil fragments exposed over time. Hiking shoes are recommended due to uneven terrain. There are no benches, restrooms or shade.
